England Futsal

During their UEFA fixture against Spain, England Futsal used Dataworks technology to bring realtime heart rate data into the match environment. The project extended biometric storytelling into a high-tempo team sport.

Fast game, fast data

The full England squad wore sensors, with heart rate captured pitchside and processed live through the Dataworks pipeline in under one second. The data powered a set of visuals showing live exertion and short-term trends as players came on and off the court.

Connected commentary

A live screen was provided to the commentary team, giving them access to realtime metrics throughout the match. The game was streamed on YouTube, with commentators referencing the data during play to explain pressure, recovery and intensity from a physical perspective.

Player approval

Players were interested, engaged and proud to show their effort, with no concerns around data usage. The Futsal format is not your traditional football match, and heart rate created a relatable reference point for fans.

Visible effort

Futsal moves fast. Heart rate builds just after the moment, not always during it. But the visualisation made the physical effort clear. Spikes, drops and recovery phases helped tell the story behind the play, giving fans and commentators a way to see what players were going through.
